about Netty

As you might have guessed from the website address, my name is Netty Provost.  Currently I’m a Visiting Professor of Philosophy in the Department of Humanities at Indiana University Kokomo.  I'm also in the final stages of completing my dissertation through Purdue University's Department of Philosophy.  I was fortunate enough to be offered the Brewer Chair Fellowship in Applied Ethics there for the 2010-2011 academic year but sadly had to decline  in favor of my position with Indiana University Kokomo.

The 2010-2011 academic year looks to be incredibly busy and productive since I'll be teaching four individual philosophy courses each semester, participating in several faculty committees, and faculty senate at Indiana University Kokomo.  I'll also be defending my dissertation at Purdue and working with the journal China Review International to review several texts in the philosophy of Chinese religions.

My areas of specialization in Philosophy include Eastern philosophy, phenomenology, and philosophy of religion. I also have areas of competence in environmental ethics, contemporary continental philosophy and ethics.

I have a wide range of interests in philosophy beyond my specializations and competencies including the scholarship of teaching and learning, aesthetics, philosophy of time, philosophy of technology and philosophy of woman. I am competent in French, and am currently studying Sanskrit.

Prior to moving to Indiana, I lived in Maine and attended the University of Maine where I received my B.A..  My studies there focused on philosophy, literature (in particular literary theory), and cultural anthropology (specifically the role of myth in Native American belief systems). While at UMaine I was also worked as a principle website developer for the University and umaine.edu.

At the moment I live in Indiana with three eccentric cats and far too many books.  I also have a background in dance and occasionally teach small classes at a local community studio.
