biography
As you might have guessed from the website address, my
name is Netty Provost. Currently I’m Lecturer in
Philosophy in the Department of Humanities at Indiana
University Kokomo. Additionally I direct the
Multidisciplinary Studies Degree program at IUK and
manage the Philosophy Minor.
My areas of specialization in Philosophy include Eastern
philosophy, phenomenology, and ethics. I also have areas
of competence in environmental ethics, contemporary
continental philosophy and philosophy of religion and
philosophy of human nature.
I have a wide range of interests in philosophy beyond my
specializations and competencies including the
scholarship of teaching and learning, aesthetics,
philosophy of time, philosophy of technology, philosophy
of human nature and philosophy of woman. I have
competency with French, and am currently studying
Sanskrit. Basically I consider myself a generalist in
philosophy and will happily teach and research in nearly
any area.
Before to moving to Indiana, I lived in Maine and
attended the University of Maine where I received my
B.A.. My studies there focused on philosophy, literature
(in particular literary theory), and cultural
anthropology. While at UMaine I was also worked as a
principle website developer for the University. At the
moment I live in Indiana with three eccentric cats and
far too many books. I also have a background in dance
and occasionally teach small classes at a local
community studio.
